Wolverhampton Photographic Society members Jim Dowdall and Roy Hawthorne have authored a book containing many WPS collection and archive pictures of old Wolverhampton. The book, Images of Wolverhampton, has been published as part of the "Britain in Old Photographs" series by Sutton Publishing.

Jim and Roy have spent over 2 years assembling and captioning the images for this book and are donating all of their royalties to Cheshire Homes and Compton Hospice.

Over 240 pictures record the changing town (and city) since 1859 - the date of the oldest photograph here (and Jim reassures us it's not one he has taken!!). Although the city centre is well covered, there are also images of the outlying suburbs such as Penn, Heath Town, Tettenhall and Bilston

Together with well researched and informative captions, they offer the reader a powerful link with Wolverhamptons past - including the minutiae of changing street scenes, individual buildings, fashions and the daily lives of our ancestors.

The book was launched on 13th December at an event attended by several local dignitaries, including our ex-Mayor and good WPS friend, Mrs. Joyce Hill.

The book is available for purchase from several local book sellers at a price of £11.99

Congratulations to Jim and Roy for putting together such an excellent book and also for yet again bringing WPS into the limelight.
