Queen Mary arrived at Low Level station Wolverhampton on 25th July 1939. She was greeted by Lord Harrowby who presented the Mayor councillor E. J. Luce. Queen Square literally became Queen Square for the first time in 73 years. Cheering crowds lined the route down through Chapel Ash where this photograph was taken by young 15 year old Gerry Tredwell. He is now an honorary member of Wolverhampton Photographic Society, having first joined way back in 1946. Reproduction courtesy of Gerry Tredwell, Roy Hawthorne and Sutton Publishing |
