. Selections in Photoshop When using the Lasso tool, the occasion may arise when you might want to draw a perfectly straight selection. If you press the Alt key you will easily change from the standard lasso tool to the polygon lasso tool. You can instantly access the selection commands when you have an area selected, by right clicking in your selected area. If you have a selection in place, and need to make it larger, you can make your selection grow. Under the Select menu, choose Grow, and will select the next set of pixels based on the Magic Wand Tool Tolerance setting. When working with a selection, you can bring up most of the items from the Select Menu by Control/Right-clicking inside the selection. When using the Polygonal Lasso, you can delete points you have just created by pressing Delete/Backspace. Each time you press it, it deletes the points in the order they were made. To hide the marching ants around your selection just press Shift-Control - H. To recall them press Shift-Control H again. When using the Lasso tool, you can still resort to many of your navigation tools without stopping your selection. Holding the spacebar will change to the Hand tool, Ctrl - + and - still work to zoom in and out. When using the Polygonal Lasso, you can easily remove the last pivot point made by pressing the Delete/Backspace key. Each time you press it, it removes a point. Sometimes, when copying selections, you may notice some fringe pixels around the image when you paste it. You can most likely remove the fringe border by going to Layers>Matting>Defringe and entering a value of 1. Try using Quick Mask mode to fine-tune your selections, just press Q after you've made a selection. Now use the Levels dialog to adjust your selection. |
